There is so much to love about Dwight Yoakam, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Since Dwight Yoakam last CD (The Best Of) on Sparrow Records back in 2004, I have felt a massive void in my life. It’s natural for Dwight Yoakam to take a stab at ‘Honky Tonk Man’ considering her long-professed love for Paul Oakenfold. Such great and happy songs.
Guitars, Cadillacs motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Little Sister presents the astounding mix of instruments on The Best Of. Little Ways is probably one of Dwight Yoakam’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Please Please Baby - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Charming song, great melody. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Streets Of Bakersfield (with Buck Owens). I Sang Dixie is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Long White Cadillac is the albums biggest surprise. I like You’re The One because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Suspicious Minds is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. It Only Hurts When I Cry had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Don’t judge Ain’t That Lonely Yet on the first listening. A Thousand Miles From Nowhere is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. In Fast As You the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. In Crazy Little Thing Called Love Dwight Yoakam spins a tale you want to hear to the end. I Want You To Want Me - To me, this is the best song on the The Best Of. Things Change is one of these floating songs. The Late Great Golden State is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. The Back Of Your Hand is Dwight Yoakam’s best work in years.
