This disc has all of the essential Ralph Stanley classics. Self-described as Folk with lots of words, Ralph Stanley comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Bun B. Hear has compared writing for Ralph Stanley’s new album to that on ‘Shine On’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Another great offering from Ralph Stanley.
Shine On couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track The Roses Will Bloom. I’ve found myself listening to The Old Church Yard back to back and back many times. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. My Main Trial Is Yet To Come is almost impossible to review. I listened to the opening track Sing Songs About Jesus and liked it a lot. Palms Of Victory is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. No Ralph Stanley song has come close to capturing my attention as On A High, High Mountain did. The song feels complete. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot had me crying as I was able to relate so well. I’ll Fly Away is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Shine On is nothing but pure genius. Why Should We Start And Fear To Die has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Let Your Light Shine Out has a fun tempo.
