There were many famous songs of Merle Haggard available. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Merle Haggard on ‘All My Friends Are Strangers’. Jim Jones has compared writing for Merle Haggard’s new album to that on ‘Jones Sings Haggard, Haggard Sings Jones: Kickin’ Out the Footlights… Again’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. I wish that “Jones Sings Haggard, Haggard Sings Jones: Kickin’ Out the Footlights… Again” album was instrumental.
Merle Haggard rocks harder than ever with Born With The Blues. Don’t Get Around Much Anymore - A strong beat. Footlights is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. I Always Get Lucky With You - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. I Think I’ll Just Stay Here And Drink is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. Nice and different song. Sing Me Back Home is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. The Race Is On is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. The Way I Am is another strong production from Merle Haggard. The Window Above is the cool blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. I hope to keep hearing Merle Haggard works for a long time to come. You Take Me For Granted gets you up and jumping.
