Since Great Lake Swimmers last CD (Bodies and Minds) on ForeFront Records back in 2005, I have felt a massive void in my life. Great Lake Swimmers’s debut, ‘Bodies and Minds’, does not fit easily into one genre. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Great Lake Swimmers’s new album to that on ‘Bodies and Minds’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This is my first Great Lake Swimmers Album and i must say i am blown away.
I have all of Great Lake Swimmers’s tracks and Let’s Trade Skins is probably the most his introspective effort. When It Flows - another great track from the Bodies and Minds album. Various Stages gives good insight into the truths. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: To Leave It Behind, which shows, blatantly, how much Great Lake Swimmers has evolved as a singer. Falling into the Sky - Check out that bassline! It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. I Saw You in the Wild is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Voice and instruments in I Could Be Nothing complement each other. Music in Long into the Evening is marvelous as in all tracks of Bodies and Minds.
