It’s natural for Earl Hines to take a stab at ‘Blues in Thirds’ considering her long-professed love for Led Zeppelin. This is one of the best Cd’s Earl Hines has dropped to date. Blues in Thirds isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This album is awesome.
Velvet Moon [Take 1][Alternate Take][#] - A nice song. Vocals of Earl Hines in Stan Dance really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Black Lion Blues [#] is a fine track on any terms. Tea for Two is one of the best records ever. When I Dream of You gives taste of what makes Earl Hines special as a musician. The song feels complete. Shiny Stockings is another strong production from Earl Hines. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Blues in Thirds. Velvet Moon [Take 2] is one of the more up-tempo songs on Blues in Thirds.
