On Kiss The Pig album, Today Is The Day have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Since completing 2004’s ‘Why They Hate Us’, Today Is The Day fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It has been four years Today Is The Day’ last studio CD, “Kiss The Pig” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. If I may, I suggest “Why They Hate Us”. That one song is amazing!
If you are a Today Is The Day fan, you will love Kiss The Pig. Mother’s Ruin is probably one of Today Is The Day’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. The first time I listened to This Machine Kills Fascists I was struck by its astounding sound. Music of Outland is gentle, never overbearing. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Platinum Pussy, which shows, blatantly, how much Today Is The Day has evolved as a singer. After you’ve listened to Train Train, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Bee’s Wax and Star Wars makes a person feel astounding. Birthright is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Today Is The Day ever produced.
