It’s natural for Banda Maguey to take a stab at ‘Que Te Perdone Dios’ considering her long-professed love for Gustav Holst. Self-described as Latin with lots of words, Banda Maguey comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Banda Maguey energies, virtually a rebirth. Que Te Perdone Dios and Carola is really good.
Carola is probably the highlight of the album. I came to like Amores Fingidos. Preguntele a Ella is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Te Voy a Olvidar is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Banda Maguey ever produced. Reina de La Noche has a fun tempo. Vamos a Platicar is Banda Maguey’s best work in years. Cenizas y Fuego sets the tone for the entire album. Mataste Mi Confianza is one of the best records ever. Tranquila is astounding. Vocals of Banda Maguey in Palo Bonito really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Cancion Mixteca is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Banda Maguey released so far. I have all of Banda Maguey’s tracks and Mambo Villa is probably the most his introspective effort. I like the agression and power of Toro Viejo. Tutankamona is nothing but pure genius.
