This is the first studio album from Son Volt since bad diagnosis in 2005. I am not a real Country music type of person, but i have to admit ‘A Retrospective: 1995-2000′ really is amazing. Since completing 2005’s ‘Drown’, Son Volt fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. I Love A Retrospective: 1995-2000 from start to finish!
Windfall has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Still going through A Retrospective: 1995-2000 and coming to appreciate Route more and more with every listen. Charming song, great melody. Nice and different song. Too Early which is my favorite is a truly Son Volt sounding song. Back Into Your World is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through A Retrospective: 1995-2000. It’s such an underrated song. A great put together song. Creosote is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Straightface is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. Driving the View one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Ain’t No More Cane great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool. After few listenings I started to like Flow more and more. Holocaust is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Son Volt has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Loose String - Okay, I just talked about depth. I like the agression and power of Medicine Hat. Open All Night is one of the best records ever.
