Michel Sardou’s debut, ‘Bercy 98′, does not fit easily into one genre. There were many famous songs of Michel Sardou available. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Michel Sardou has. To me Michel Sardou is the best band ever.
It’s a great pleasure to listen to La Java De Broadway from the beginning to the end. In Les Bals Populaires it becomes nowhere more obvious that Michel Sardou has yet to define own style. J’Accuse is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Rouge is probably one of Michel Sardou’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Je Vais T’Aimer is one of the best records ever. Je Vole is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Il Etait La (Le Fauteuil) presents the gorgeous mix of instruments on Bercy 98. Etre Une Femme - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Les Vieux Maries is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Michel Sardou offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. The opening track Mon Dernier Reve Sera Pour Toi is very much like you would expect from other albums. Michel Sardou is one of artists that allow his songs like Les Villes De Solitude to stand on their own and be heard. Une Fille Aux Yeux Clairs - This is a very lively song. Caino - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. S’Enfuir Et Apres is nothing but pure genius. Et Mourir De Plaisir - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Le France - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Best song on the album, love it. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Musulmanes can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Michel Sardou is all about. L’An Mil is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Chanteur De Jazz is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Salut is the first taste of the new album. The song feels complete. Une fille aux yeux clairs (avec J.J Goldman) actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Michel Sardou’s face.
