For older fans Volleyed Iron will put a massive smile accross your face. There is no doubt that Kettel has talent. Volleyed Iron isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This album is awesome.
American Video is really the reason why I recommend buying Volleyed Iron. Did We Orient as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Electrician and Adventurer without a doubt is the standout song of Volleyed Iron. Four Eyes At A Gate is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Kettel ever produced. After you’ve listened to Sorry, But We Don’t Hear You, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. I now have Teeth, Wait as one of my personal favorites. Ureterp, July is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Hondsvot stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Machine Planet is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Kettel released so far. Wim Hoffman is a exquisite, simple song by Kettel at the top of his game. Little Duck, When Is Our Day is one of the best records ever. Best song on the album, love it.
