Bal-Sagoth’s debut, ‘The Chthonic Chronicles’, does not fit easily into one genre. Since Bal-Sagoth last CD (The Chthonic Chronicles) on Mute Records back in 2006, I have felt a massive void in my life. Bal-Sagoth had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
When listening to Invocations Beyond The Outer-World Night, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Six Score And Ten Oblations To A Malefic Avatar is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. The Obsidian Crown Unbound gets you up and jumping. The Fallen Kingdoms Of The Abyssal Plain to me is the best you can get from Bal-Sagoth. Shackled To The Trilithon Of Kutulu is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Bal-Sagoth released so far. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Unfettering The Hoary Sentinels Of Karnak as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Voice of Bal-Sagoth in To Storm The Cyclopean Gates Of Byzantium is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. What sets Arcana Antediluvia apart is Bal-Sagoth’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Beneath The Crimson Vaults Of Cydonia - This is a very lively song. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in The Chthonic Chronicles.
