Marty Stuart had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Marty Stuart’s debut, ‘Live at the Ryman’, does not fit easily into one genre. This is one of the best Cd’s Marty Stuart has dropped to date. Exciting stuff.
After you’ve listened to Orange Blossom Special, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. No Hard Times Blues is one of the more up-tempo songs on Live at the Ryman. The opening track Homesick is very much like you would expect from other albums. Mr. John Henry - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Marty Stuart. Uncle John Intro - Marty Stuart first major hit. Train 45 - A classic Marty Stuart track. Josh’s Joke - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. I can’t stop humming along Sure Wanna Keep My Wine. Walk Like That is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Marty Stuart released so far. Marty Stuart offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. In Shuckin’ The Corn Marty Stuart spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Whiskey Ain’t Workin’ Anymore is probably one of Marty Stuart’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Music in Mr. John Henry/The Steel Driving Man is excellent as in all tracks of Live at the Ryman.
