Happenstance carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Rachael Yamagata’s new album to that on ‘Happenstance’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. After seeing Be Be Your Love, I had to have a good Rachael Yamagata cd. Unappreciated gift to Rock: Pop-Rock
Worn Me Down - I just love it. Letter Read is the funkiest number on the album. The opening track Collide is very much like you would expect from other albums. Paper Doll one of the best in my collection. Moments With Oliver - My least favorite song on this album. Quiet - Check out that bassline! Under My Skin is a bit of a show-tune. Blew our minds when we first heard 1963. Edith is a medium tempo tune. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Opening track Meet Me By The Water shows the best of Rachael Yamagata. I Want You - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. After about the third I’ll Find A Way listen through, I began to believe this song is Rachael Yamagata’s essence. Reason Why actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Rachael Yamagata’s face. Ode To… is Rachael Yamagata’s best work in years.
