After seeing Debe, I had to have a good Toumani Diabate cd. Now signed to Toumani Diabate’s Mute Records, the title track from second album “In the Heart of the Moon” leads Toumani Diabate’s back-to-school campaign. There is so much to love about Toumani Diabate, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Toumani Diabate sings his heart out in Kala. Don’t judge Mamadou Boutiquier on the first listening. Monsieur Le Maire De Niafunke is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Such hits like Kaira will leave you hooked. Simbo motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Ai Ga Bani is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Soumbou Ya Ya is a strong cut, one of many. From the moment you listen to Naweye Toro you’re hooked. Best song on the album, love it. Gomni can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Toumani Diabate is all about. It’s such an underrated song.
