On 12:5 album, Pain of Salvation have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. After seeing Book I: Genesis - I, I had to have a good Pain of Salvation cd. It’s natural for Pain of Salvation to take a stab at ‘Book I: Genesis - I’ considering her long-professed love for Babylon Zoo. IT makes me wanna dance!
Book I: Genesis - II is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on 12:5 is Book I: Genesis - III. Book I: Genesis - IV is Pain of Salvation’s best work in years. Book I: Genesis - V is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. I like to sing along with Book II: Genesister - Winning A War, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Book II: Genesister - Dryad Of The Woods is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through 12:5. Book II: Genesister - Oblivion Ocean have really caught my ear and imagination. In Book II: Genesister - Untertow full palet of sound is used by Pain of Salvation to accentuate the presentation. Book II: Genesister - Chainsling is a very catchy tune. Book III: Genesinister: VI (Brickwood Ascend 1) is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Simple and heartfelt closing track Book III: Genesinister: VI (Brickwood Ascend 2) closes 12:5 on a high note. Book III: Genesinister: VIII (Second Love) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Pain of Salvation’s strong vocals come to the fore. Book III: Genesinister: IX (Ashes T5) is almost impossible to review. I love the melodic melody of Book III: Genesinister: X (Brickwood Descend 2) and to this day it makes me feel good.
