Since completing 2004’s ‘Animae Partus’, Pain of Salvation fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It’s natural for Pain of Salvation to take a stab at ‘Animae Partus’ considering her long-professed love for Universal Soul. Self-described as Metal: Progressive with lots of words, Pain of Salvation comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Great Metal: Progressive right here!
As always, Pain of Salvation’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Imago is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Pluvius Aestivus is one of the more up-tempo songs on Be. Lilium Cruentus is possibly the best song Pain of Salvation has come up. Nauticus is simple, dignified and effective, Pain of Salvation refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Dea Pecuniae is a good listen every once in a while. Don’t judge Vocari Dei on the first listening. Diffidentia great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.|titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Latertius Valette is astounding. This track is clearly meant to showcase Pain of Salvation’s vocal abilities. Pain of Salvation is one of artists that allow his songs like Iter Impius to stand on their own and be heard. Matius / Nauticus II is beautiful, yet underrated track. Animae Partus II as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature.
