There is so much to love about Raekwon, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Raekwon’s debut, ‘The Vatican Mixtape, Vol. 1′, does not fit easily into one genre. Lead single “Intro” and “Let my niggas live” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. The Vatican Mixtape, Vol. 1 is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Let my niggas live is a striking and quite long song. DJ Riddler skit has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Raekwon’s strong vocals come to the fore. You might die is almost impossible to review. I have all of Raekwon’s tracks and Major waves is probably the most his introspective effort. Tony soprano is nothing but pure genius. Gun king (Verse) is cool song though, very addictive. Still killin’ (Verse off of Kay Slay) is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. Yea-yo rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with The heist. Baggage handlers is worth the money. First time I heard Diesel was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Raekwon must have run out of lyrics on the next track Spring water. 45′ - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Big spender is one of these floating songs. The truth actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Raekwon’s face. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Get The Vatican Mixtape, Vol. 1 and turn on Purple jag if you are going to sip your wine late at night. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Bump bump. Shame on a nigga the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Pop off (Verse) is cool work of Raekwon. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Ice water inc. is a good listen every once in a while. Lyrics of Thousands to M’s are precise and evocative. I came to like Kids thats rich. Scarface skit is probably one of Raekwon’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Good kush - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Raekwon. Fish & chips is simply excellent. Biggie, big pun, raekwon, nas pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Voice and instruments in Vatican complement each other. Down south (Verse) is a very catchy tune. The sound in Ice water is really warm and Raekwon’s signature voice is still very much present. Ghetto boy - arguably the best track on The Vatican Mixtape, Vol. 1 album.
