This -song debut EP shows the promise that Raekwon has. This album has some very good songs like King Of New York (Skit) and Flawless Crowns. Lead single “King Of New York (Skit)” and “Flawless Crowns” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. The Davinci Code: The Vatican Mixtape Vol. 2 is the best essence of Raekwon.
After you’ve listened to Flawless Crowns, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Run (Freestlye) catches attention immediately, I like the idea behind Rakim Tribute. Skit have really caught my ear and imagination. If you are a Raekwon fan, you will love Rap Killers. I’ve found myself listening to Fly Shawty Penelope back to back and back many times. Brown Paper Bag is a very catchy tune. A unique and uplifting song. The sound of Treasurers is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Own My Mind is outstanding work of Raekwon. Once you hear New York!! (Feat. AZ & Ghostface), you will listen to it over and over. In What’s Goin’ On you won’t find any flashy solos. Dangerous is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after The Davinci Code: The Vatican Mixtape Vol. 2 have ended. This song may be the most meaningful. Range Rover ft. RZA is one of these floating songs. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. From the moment you listen to Counterfittin’ you’re hooked. I like the agression and power of Brother’s Keeper ft. Nas. State Of Grace (Feat. Busta Rhymes) - Check out that bassline! Rover Sport gives taste of what makes Raekwon special as a musician. Skit make listening to Raekwon like being in some sort of time warp. Real Ain’t Real great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.
