It has been thirteen years Eleni Mandell’ last studio CD, “Afternoon” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. On Afternoon album, Eleni Mandell have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “American Boy” and “Afternoon” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. If I may, I suggest “American Boy”. That one song is amazing!
I loved Afternoon the first time I heard it. Can’t You See I’m Soulful - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Music of Say Goodbye is gentle, never overbearing. Just A Dream is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Eleni Mandell is hitting on all cylinders in Sun’s Always Shining (In Rome). Fall Away - a classic song. This song may be the most meaningful. I’ve Been Fooled makes a person feel amazing. Let’s Drive Away gives taste of what makes Eleni Mandell special as a musician. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Easy On Your Way Out. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Dangerous. The first time I listened to Yellow Light I was struck by its perfect sound.
