Leon Russell’s debut, ‘The Best of Leon Russell’, does not fit easily into one genre. This disc has all of the essential Leon Russell classics. This eleven-song debut EP shows the promise that Leon Russell has. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Shoot Out on the Plantation is the albums biggest surprise. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Still going through The Best of Leon Russell and coming to appreciate Alcatraz more and more with every listen. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Leon Russell. There is excellent mix of music in Queen of the Roller Derby. Roll Away the Stone is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Stranger in a Strange Land - Well, here we get a bit more meaning.
