Cathedral’s debut, ‘The Serpent’s Gold (CD 1) - The Serpent’s Treasure’, does not fit easily into one genre. Self-described as Rock with lots of words, Cathedral comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. There is so much to love about Cathedral, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Such great and happy songs.
Hopkins (Witchfinder General) - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Autumn Twilight still maintains something of a specific flourish. I like the agression and power of Midnight Mountain. Soul Sacrifice has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Voice of Cathedral in Enter The Worms is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. After few listenings I started to like Vampire Sun more and more. In Cosmic Funeral the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Simple and heartfelt closing track Melancholy Emperor closes The Serpent’s Gold (CD 1) - The Serpent’s Treasure on a high note. Equilibrium is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Utopian Blaster is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Imprisoned In Flesh hits the heart.
